I Hate the Movies!

I love movies on tv. I hate movies that you have to take out a second mortgage to go see; especially when they're crap! I was just reading Laurie's post about the movie "Holiday". I have to say that I'm really glad she wrote this because she's just saved me $9.95. 'Cause if you're anything like me and all (that would be "cheap bastard") you can't stand spending good money (or valuable time) going to see crap. And why does this happen? It seems like there's way more movies being put out today than when I was growing up, but it's just more crap. I think we need someone to start a women's site - like a female Siskel and Ebert (or whoever it is these days) to give us the heads up. I really don't mind coughing up the cash if I enjoy the movie, but that seems to happen less and less these days. I can remember about ten years ago when the "Pokemon" movie first came out. DS, being 6 years old at the time, was dyi...

A Done Deal.

Woohoo! I got the "congratulations" letter over the weekend - couriered by Expresspost no less - from the University. I'm a little excited but also a lot nervous! I'm not as worried about the course content as I am about the proceedures. You know, how things are supposed to be written out, in what format, blah blah blah. I can have all the right information but it doesn't matter if it's not done in the right way. So I've been getting advice from a few people and apparently there's books written on this and even courses out there. You see why I'm intimidated? If they actually have to write a book about it or hold a course... sheesh! The school has a 4 hour orientation coming up and I think I'd better be there. Otherwise I'm almost ready for the holidays. Just a few last minute gifts to buy. DD helped out a lot this year by doing the house decorating. It looks better than it ever did with me doing it. This is the tree she and her...

Onward and upward...

I was complaining whining speculating about the changes in my life in a recent post , and I've decided to take some action on it. I might be right out of my mind but I have an appt Monday with a dept head at our local university. Now you have to realize that I graduated from high school in (gulp) 1979. In my early 20's I did a 4 year apprenticeship as a Tool & Die Maker and haven't been to school since other than the occasional night school class. But the kids are pretty much grown, DD is 18 and just bought her first car and is working part time while going to school full time and really doesn't need me much anymore. (I guess I'd better learn not to make run-on sentences if I want to go to uni!) DS is living with Dad at the moment. So there's really no reason for me not to. I work full time so I'm going to apply as a part time undergrad, and I'm thinking of just taking one course per semester to begin until I see how it goes. I want it to enhance ...

Shopping, Knitting and Kitties

Image
But first a pic of pure contentment; knitting with my back to the fireplace with my feet up and a kitty lapwarmer. You'll notice I picked the shot that blurred out the feet that are in desparate need of a pedicure. I booked the day off work today to start on the Christmas shopping, and can you believe it I'm almost done! Here we are not even December yet and I've got just a few small gifts left to buy. This has never before happened in my unorganized life, and I venture to say it will never happen again, but I'm just going to gloat in the glory of shopping-done. Of course I'll still be in a panic on Christmas Eve as I remember someone that I totally forgot to buy for, but then it wouldn't be Christmas otherwise, would it? Here I've finished the Vogue Knitting Lacy Shawl and it's on the blocking board. I don't usually bother to block but the lace just wasn't showing otherwise. I also wasn't sure of what would be the best way to block si...

The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods. What Tarot Card are You? Take the Test to Find Out.

The Colour Purple

Image
Dark Purple To others, you seem a bit dark, mysterious, and moody. In truth, you are just a very unique person who doesn't care what others think. And you really enjoy your offbeat interests and friends. You've decided that life is about living for yourself - simple as that. What Color Purple Are You? I don't know where it came from but I've had a surge of ambition and I've been wrapping up old WIP's. First up is the fleece blanket. I had the scathingly brilliant idea of sewing the two layers together and then doing a blanket stitch around the edges. This turned out to be much harder than I thought because you're sewing yarn through 4 layers of fleece (two sides plus the seam allowances inside). I had to use plyers to pull the needle through for each and every stitch. I had three sides done and then it's sat languishing for the last three years. I then did three others for gifts with just a sewing machine topstitch edge, but the original blanket st...

Of Daughters and Granddaughters...

DD bought her very first car last weekend. Doesn't she look proud? As well she should. When she was working at that apprenticeship job in grades 11/12 she saved almost every dollar she made. So she's now the proud owner of this '97 Pontiac Sunfire. And with this comes freedom for both of us; she gets to do her own running around, I get to NOT have to drive her everywhere and as a bonus I can send her to the store or for takeout until the novelty wears off! ;) She also landed an after-school job this week so she'll be able to pay for her gas and insurance. I tell you, this girl rocks! And this interesting little character watching her Mom get her pics taken is my new granddaughter. Ok, I know it's a doll, but still. DD had this computerized doll for the weekend as part of her parenting course at school. The doll cries and you have a minute to respond by putting a key in it's back and holding it for 20 seconds or so. If you don't respond in time you ...
