What's keeping me busy.

But first, a couple of housekeeping items. And no, housekeeping hasn't been keeping me busy; my house is a mess right now!

In my last post I mentioned how my trip to Tupolo Mississippi was a one day trip. I have to clarify; we drove down one day, spent the next day there visiting (the "one day trip") and the next driving home. So while it was crazy it wasn't completely insane! lol

Knitty-Kat is in town this weekend for a soccer tournament, and is asking what to do while in Windsor. Unfortunately it's Saturday afternoon and I only just got the message. But just in case she happens to check in, it's a great time to take a drive in Essex County and check out the roadside stands or make the trip to Collasanti's greenhouses. Point Pelee is a great place to go for nature walks and get lots of really good pics. And there's also a lot of wineries in the region for a wine tour. If you want to take a trip across the border to the States, if you take the bridge there's Mexican Village with the BEST Mexican food around, or take the tunnel for Greektown, or if you're into raw oysters like me, Tom's Oyster Bar. But if time is really limited you have to at least take a walk by the riverfront to take in the Detroit skyline. Beautiful! Oh, and for dinner on our side of the border I recommend Chinoso's in the 300 block of Ouellette Avenue. They do Thai food and I'm a regular for their stir-fries.

As far as what's keeping me busy, other than the fact that I just got home from ANOTHER week out of town (which I'm really starting to hate!), I've been canning. I used to can way back before I had kids. When I was in my late teens/early twenties I used to make a mean corn relish as well as strawberry jam pretty much every year. This is the first year I've been back into it, and I didn't want to overwhelm myself, so I bought this book. So far I've made the Traditional Garlic Dill Pickles, the Autumn Fruit Jam and the Zucchini Relish. The Zucchini Relish looks a little bland because I didn't have any turmeric on hand but my fingers are crossed. I've only tried the jam so far and it was way better than what I expected. I'm on a roll!

My mom used to can stuff from our garden. If I had a garden I might do it too. It was a lot of work but it was sorta fun, too. I think I enjoyed making jam the most. Jam and pickles =)

Glad to see you're back! You are back right? You're not going to disappear for another few weeks are you? Hope you get to stay at home and rest a little bit.

Hmm, homemade yummies! They look great! And thanks for the info. Sadly I didn't make it (my Mum went into the hospital over night & I felt guilty leaving her alone). I'm going to have to make a trip out there soon!!
