Renovations Schmenovations

The bathroom saga continues. And let me just say that the next time I say something along the lines of "I think I'll do a major renovation project myself", please feel free to slap me upside the head! Of course this was supposed to be DD's maiden project, but somehow the appeal wore off pretty quick for her and it's my baby now.

This is my new ceiling fan. My new clean white quiet ceiling fan. Took me about 4 hours to install this puppy including wiring in new electrical wiring because what was there didn't work with the new unit (wasn't long enough). Which I had to do "blind" because I couldn't see a thing in that teeny hole up there. Yeah, I like to live on the edge.

And the walls? Yup, that's purple all right. Or more specifically, "Lovely Lavender" (or is it "Lavender Lace?" I'm too lazy to go see). What can I say; the colour pallettes suggested that to go with the aweful blue of the shower stall.

So now I'm working on the ceramic tile floor. If I EVER say I'm doing ceramic tile again please just hold a pillow over my head and put me out of my misery. This has to be the worst renovation job I've ever done. I guess I should mention that I have rheumatoid arthritis and it was already flaring up pretty good from the previous parts of the bathroom reno. But how long can it take to install a little ceramic tile in a teeny tiny bathroom? This is how much I got done in six hours. At which point I had to quit because I couldn't move, not even enough to wipe away the tears. Have I mentioned that I HATE doing ceramic tile? Not only are my knees swollen and locked up but my equally swollen hands are covered in blisters from using those damn little nippers to cut out the tile for the toilet hole. In little tiny bits. Bit by bit. Oh yeah, there's a nice blood blister there too from getting my hand caught in said damn little nippers.

I have to admit I was feeling a little better after a few glasses of wine. But not better enough to go at it again today. Not even better enough to be able to knit! I need to recuperate for a couple of days before I get back to it. Who says we need two bathrooms anyway?

In a glimmer of good news I did get a shipment of sock wool from Briggs & Little this week. Boston says if I'm a good girl and finish the bathroom he'll let me have it back to play with.

I can't believe you can do all this yourself! I'm sooooo impressed. The worst part of doing tile for me was the grouting - just killed my hands! But your reno looks great and it's worth it in the end. Love your colour choices.

Don't you just *love* the smell of freshly laid tile?! YUM! Actually, it smelled quite toxic when we remodeled our bathroom.

Freshisle, that's not what I wanted to hear! I still have to finish the tile and now I have to face the grouting? {shudders}

Choomon, I think they are twins separated at birth, except George seems to have two green eyes where Boston has one green and one blue.

Lisa, I can't even go down there to enjoy the smell I'm still so pissed about this job! lol Just make sure you remind me of this post six months from now when I decide to remodel the OTHER bathroom.

Bless your heart! Bathroom renos are the pits. At our house, we have decided to forego the reno and proceed directly to building fresh. Don't go there either. It's better to move. I do hope you feel better soon.

Poor thing! That is a scary story. It's mostly disturbing b/c you can't knit away your frustrations! ((hugs))
