The Finished Socks - With Pattern

NOTE: I HAVE ALTERED THE HEEL IN THIS PATTERN SINCE FIRST POSTING IT!

Here's the finished socks. Have I said how much I love this Briggs and Little wool yarn? It's nice and warm without being too thick, and it's so soft and squishy in my shoes! lol

Anyway, I promised to post the pattern. The reason I had to come up with my own pattern is that this yarn is "Sport" weight, which is slightly thicker than sock yarn. I wanted a lace and cable design that would work with the number of stitches I was using. I use a toe-up design using the figure 8 cast-on, and a short-rowed heel. So without further ado...

THE LACEY SOCK PATTERN

NOTE: This pattern is sized for my foot which measures 8 1/2" diameter around the ball of the foot. The finished sock measures 7 3/8" diameter. For a smaller/larger foot adjust needle size accordingly.

Materials:
1 skein Briggs & Little Sport weight yarn
2.75mm dpns or long circ if using magic loop method

Gauge:
7 sts and 11 rows = 1" square in stocking st.

Pattern:
Using a toe-up design, cast on 28 sts (14 per needle)
NOTE: for a pointier toe cast on less stitches
Work toe until you have 56 sts (28 per needle); proceed with pattern:

Divide sts, 28 sts for instep and 28 sts for sole. Beginning with instep:

Row 1: K1, P1, *K4, P1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, YO, P1*, repeat *'s 1 time, K4, P1, K1, K28
Row 2: K1, P1, *K4, P1*, repeat *'s 4 times, K1, K28
Row 3: K1, P1, *K4, P1, YO, SSK, YO, SSK, P1*, repeat *'s 1 time, K4, P1, K1, K28
Row 4: K1, P1, *K4, P1*, repeat *'s 4 times, K1, K28
Row 5: K1, P1, *Cable 4, P1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, YO, P1*, repeat *'s 1 time, Cable 4, P1, K1, K28
Row 6: K1, P1, *K4, P1*, repeat *'s 4 times, K1, K28
Row 7: K1, P1, *K4, P1, YO, SSK, YO, SSK, P1*, repeat *'s 1 time, K4, P1, K1, K28
Row 8: K1, P1, *K4, P1*, repeat *'s 4 times, K1, K28

Repeat 8 rows of pattern until desired length (I used 7 repeats for a snug but not-too-tight fit with my size 9 1/2 feet)

Turn shortrowed heel:

Knit row 1 of pattern.
Bring yarn forward; wrap next st; turn.
P28; wrap next st; turn.
K27, wrap next st; turn.
P26, wrap next st; turn.
Continue in this pattern working one less st each row until you have 10 working sts. Turn.
K11, picking up wrap and knitting it with 11th st; wrap next st; turn.
P12, picking up wrap and knitting it with 12th st; wrap next st; turn.
K13, picking up both wraps and knitting it with 13th st; wrap next st; turn.
P12, picking up both wraps and knitting it with 14th st; wrap next st; turn.
Continue in this pattern working one more st each row until all 28 sts are active. You should be at the beginning of the heel.
Pick up yarn between sts and M1; K to beginning of round; M1.
Work next round in established pattern in front and stocking st in back, increasing one st at beginning and end of heel; 60st.
Continue in established pattern around both sides of sock for desired length; I use same number of pattern repeats as I used for the foot.
Work in K1 P1 ribbing for 1". Bind off in K1 P1 rib using larger needle.
